For Kelly Smith, one wrong turn
couldn’t have ended up being more right.
Somewhere between Orange County and Temecula, Kelly Smith took a wrong turn that changed her life forever. It was the weekend and as usual she and her husband, Steve, had been enjoying a long, relaxing ride on their Harleys. As they turned down a winding dirt road, they began noticing a change in their surroundings. Expansive views of the mountainside gave way to quaint farms and ranches, some with lush groves of citrus and avocado trees, others with horses quietly grazing. As captivated as they were by the sights it wasn’t until Kelly and Steve tried to get back to a main road that they discovered they made a wrong turn somewhere along the way. Although they were lost, this didn’t deter Kelly’s enchantment of the area’s simple beauty, wide-open spaces and peaceful atmosphere.
A Right Turn
In fact, Kelly fell so in love with La Cresta and the Santa Rosa Plateau that she and Steve came back and bought a house on 20 acres the very next week. Right from the start, this native Texan and country girl at heart says it felt like home. Kelly has since purchased additional land, not only to farm avocados as well as every other type of fruit imaginable, but also to gain the experience of building a custom home and doing diffi cult parcel splits. She loves the rural feel of the area and the down-home friendliness of this community and its people. Kelly still marvels at stumbling on this ‘diamond in the rough’ and how one wrong turn can make everything so right.
